Bee Habitats

Planting Native Plants

No Mow May

Building bee habitats all over cities creates homes for bees.  These habitats don't need to be much, just a place for the bee to live and thrive in.  Bee habitats are essential in the environment with the new production of houses and buildings destroying their homes.

Pollinators are just as important as sun, soil, and water in the plant reproduction and the production of fruits and vegetables.  Planting specific types of plants can attract bees and give them a place to pollinate.  Planting these flowers around homes, gardens, and buildings can help the bee population thrive.

List of common plants that attract bee's:

  • Anise Hyssop
  • Lead Plant
  • Showy Milkweed
  • Butterfly Weed
  • Field Thistle
  • Bee Balm
  • Snap Dragon

What is "No Mow May"? Well the simple way to put it is not mowing your lawn for the month of May to help allow the grass to create habitats and forage for pollinators.  Research results show there  was an abundance and diversity of bee species on properties partaking in "No Mow May" compared to those who mowed their lawn.
